Mitchell hangs on, beats Hanover 4-2

The Mitchell Hawks took the lead against the Hanover Barons in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

A goal 10:56 into the the first period by Nathan Templeman proved to be the game winner, and powered Mitchell to the victory Jesse Degroote picked up the assist.

With the win, the Hawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Jerry Ennet was all over the ice for Mitchell, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ennet scored the first of his two goals short handed at 15:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mitchell. The Hawks played down a man on Travis Bender's slashing. Luke Salter assisted on the tally. Ennet's next tally short handed made the score 4-2 Mitchell with 24 seconds left in the third period. Salter picked up the assist.

Mitchell's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Brent Rae also scored for Mitchell. In addition, Mitchell received assists from Derek MacDonald and Matt Van DeWalle, who each chipped in one.

Hanover's offense rang up 35 shots on Mitchell's net.

The Barons were helped by Brad Pitt, who had one goal. Pitt scored on the power play 18:49 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mitchell. Hanover had taken the advantage when the Hawks' Dillon Drinkwalter got sent off for tripping. Tyson Soers provided the assist. Hanover also got a goal from Matt Drake as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Denver Hill and Tanner Bastien, who contributed one a piece.

Ben Nelson rejected 33 shots on goal for Mitchell. The Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mitch Campbell recorded 24 saves for the Barons. Hanover incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Barons, Hill was ejected from the game.
