Mitchell falls to Hanover in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Hanover Barons' Matt Drake scored 7:02 into overtime to beat the Mitchell Hawks, 2-1 (OT).

The win gave Hanover a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Mitchell was stymied by the Barons netminder Mitch Campbell, who stopped 54 shots during the victory. Even though Campbell played well, his goals against average suffered, as his one goal against exceeded his season average of 0.9.

Hanover's penalty kill excelled, as the Barons gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Hanover forced the Hawks goalie Ben Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Justin Graham also scored for Hanover. In addition, Hanover received assists from Chris Hardy, who had one.

Mitchell stifled the Barons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hanover was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Mitchell eventually piled up 55 shots on goal.

The Hawks were led by Scott Fries, who scored the team's only goal. Fries scored on the power play 13:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mitchell. Mitchell had taken the advantage when the Barons' Drake got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Jade Maxwell assisted on the tally.

Hanover incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Nelson rejected 41 shots on goal for the Hawks. Mitchell incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
