Alexander nets hat trick, leads Walkerton to 9-1 win over Goderich

Adam Alexander lifted the Walkerton Hawks to a 9-1 victory with a hat trick against the Goderich Sailors.

Alexander's first goal came 1:42 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:34 into the second and at 6:56 into the third.

The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Walkerton's offense rang up 50 shots on Goderich's net. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in the Sailors' zone, and came away with three goals.

Walkerton additionally got points from Shane MacDonald, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Joel Bowman, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Wade Pfeffer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Drew Davidson, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Walkerton also got a goal from Jake Barclay as well. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Haden Campbell, who had three, Brandon Lamothe, Nikolas McIver, and Austin Russell, who each chipped in one, and Connor Patton and Lauchlin Elder, who contributed two a piece.

Walkerton's defense shut down Goderich's forwards for much of the game, and the Sailors got off only 13 shots during the contest. Goderich's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Hawks' power play unit.

The Sailors were led by Carlos Rivero, who scored the team's only goal. Rivero scored 45 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Walkerton.

Jeff Flagler rejected 12 shots on goal for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ben Errington made 41 saves for Goderich on 50 shots. The Sailors incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
