West Michigan Hounds 18U vanquishes Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U in shootout, 6-5

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as West Michigan Hounds 18U defeated Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U in a shootout 6-5.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U got a shootout goal from Clayton Bouchard. In addition to the clincher, West Michigan Hounds 18U got shootout goals from E J Blakeslee and Collin Finkhouse.

West Michigan Hounds 18U came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. West Michigan Hounds 18U trailed 4-1 after a goal by Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U's Tanner Gilliland at 1:18 in the second period. West Michigan Hounds 18U knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Brandon Wolfe at 42 seconds in the third period.

West Michigan Hounds 18U was helped by P J Heger, who racked up two goals and one assist. Heger scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:16 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U. West Michigan Hounds 18U had taken the advantage when Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U's Connor Cash got sent off for roughing. Logan Hudson assisted on the tally. Heger's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18U with 9:30 left in the second period. Wolfe picked up the assist.
