Stayner outlasts Schomberg, 3-2Stayner Memorial Arena Sun, Feb 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stayner Siskins and the Schomberg Cougars were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Stayner made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. The Siskins gained the winning advantage on a goal by James Mense-Dietrich 9:22 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave Stayner a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Justin Reid was all over the ice for the Siskins, as he had two goals in the win. Reid scored at 3:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner and again while 15:47 into the second to make the score 2-1 Stayner. Stayner's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Schomberg power plays. The Siskins kept Schomberg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Ewart made 33 saves on 36 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Mike Mullay, who had three and Nick Izgerean, Alex Richardson, and Jason Seeley, who each chipped in one. The Cougars were helped by Mike Darnowski, who registered one goal and one assist. Darnowski scored 16:32 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Christian Muenz picked up the assist. Schomberg additionally got points from Muenz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Andrew Mackenzie, who had one. Nick Keleher rejected 25 shots on goal for Stayner. The Siskins incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Schomberg incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
