Port Stanley wins tough contest against Lucan, 4-2Lucan Community Sun, Jan 27, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Port Stanley Sailors and the Lucan Irish was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Port Stanley emerged with a 4-2 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Luke McGuire at 15:57 of the second period. With the win, the Sailors evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown. Tom Yurek had two goals to lead Port Stanley to victory. Yurek found the back of the net 9:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Stanley and again while 10:23 into the second to make the score 2-2. The Sailors' penalty kill excelled, as Port Stanley gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays. The Sailors forced Lucan goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Port Stanley additionally got points from McGuire, who also registered one goal and one assist and Tyler Beaulieu, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Stanley came via Ryan McDonnell, who had two and Derek Finlay and Taylor Schram, who each chipped in one. The Irish put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Stanley to score on any of its four power plays. The Sailors were unable to stop Lucan from sending pucks towards the net, and the Irish eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Lucan was led by Ben Lawton, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lawton scored on the power play 5:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lucan. A holding penalty on Mark Brisson had put the Irish on the power play. Colin Hartwick assisted on the tally. Lucan also got a goal from Mitch Smith as well. Port Stanley's Brandon Garner stopped 45 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Sailors incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Hoover rejected 33 shots on goal for Lucan. The Irish incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
