Port Stanley holds on for 7-5 win against Lucan

The Lucan Irish tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Port Stanley Sailors held on for a 7-5 victory.

Port Stanley made the score 7-3 on a goal by Josh Tremblay at 7:32 in the third period, and Lucan got as close as 7-5 when Keiron Cobban scored 17:12 into the third period.

The win moved the Sailors to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Port Stanley's offense rang up 52 shots on the Irish's net. The Sailors capitalized on Lucan's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Port Stanley additionally got points from Derek Finlay, who also registered one goal and one assist. Port Stanley also had goals scored by Luke McGuire, who had one and Ryan McDonnell, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Austin Blais, Andrew Yurek, Findley Brandon, and Ricky Corkum, who contributed one a piece and Mark Fraser and Tyler Beaulieu, who each chipped in two.

Port Stanley was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Irish were led by Colin Hartwick, who grabbed two goals. Hartwick scored the first of his two goals at 4:32 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ben Lawton provided the assist. Hartwick's next tally made the score 5-3 Port Stanley with 2:06 left in the second period. A holding penalty on Trevor Smith had put Lucan on the power play. Mitch Smith assisted on the tally. Lucan also got a goal from Dylan Murray as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Dylan Symons and Dylan Moss, who contributed one a piece.

Corkum rejected 33 shots on goal for the Sailors. Port Stanley incurred 48 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Irish's Dylan Hoover stopped 45 shots out of the 52 that he faced. Lucan incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
