Hartwick nets hat trick, leads Lucan to 4-3 win over Port Stanley

Colin Hartwick netted a hat trick to lead the Lucan Irish over the Port Stanley Sailors, 4-3.

Hartwick's first goal came 2:04 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:47 into the first and at 8:37 into the third.

The win gave Lucan a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Port Stanley's power play was ineffective against the Irish's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Lucan made Sailors' goalies to work without much rest, getting 38 shots and forcing 34 saves. Brandon Garner made 31 stops and Ricky Corkum made three. The Irish put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sailors to score on any of their seven power plays.

Lucan additionally got points from Mitch Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Lucan came via Fraser Lewis, Cullen Harper, Wes Huston, and Dylan Moss, who each chipped in one.

Port Stanley forced Lucan goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 57 shots. The defense for the Sailors tightened up when they had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 11 the Irish power plays.

Port Stanley was helped by Tyler Beaulieu, who tallied one goal. Beaulieu scored short handed 11:11 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Lucan. The Sailors were on a disadvantage when Taylor Schram went off the ice for delay of game. Graham Silcox assisted on the tally. Tom Yurek also scored for Port Stanley. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Ryan McDonnell and Trevor Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Dylan Hoover made 54 saves for Lucan on 57 shots. The Irish incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Lucan, Keiron Cobban was ejected from the game. Port Stanley incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
