Early goals doom Sioux Center, IA, falls to Worthington, 11-0

A four-goal first period deficit cost Sioux Center, IA, which could not recover and fell to the Worthington Trojans, 11-0.

Levi Leach had four goals and two assists to lead Worthington. Leach notched his first tally 7:26 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:34 into the first, at 4:58 into the second, and at 16:18 into the third.

Sioux Center, IA's power play was ineffective against the Trojans' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Worthington stifled Sioux Center, IA's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Trojans kept Sioux Center, IA's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Vogel made 49 saves on 60 shots. Worthington bested its season scoring average. This season, the Trojans average 3.4 goals per contest.

Worthington additionally got points from Nick Newman, who also registered one goal and two assists, Andrew Johnson, who also tallied three goals and one assist, Jacob Oberloh, who also racked up two goals and two assists, and Seth Meier, who also had one goal and three assists. More assists for Worthington came via Mitchell Shreiner and Jacob Molden, who each chipped in two.

Alex Purdy made 11 saves before being replaced by Rylan Scholtes, who took the win and made four saves. Worthington totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Sioux Center, IA incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
