Worthington uses fast start to beat Sioux Center, IA, 11-0Worthington High School Mon, Jan 14, 2013 The Worthington Trojans opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to an 11-0 over Sioux Center, IA. Levi Leach was all over the ice for Worthington, as he tallied four goals and two assists in the win. Leach's first goal came 7:26 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:34 into the first, at 4:58 into the second, and at 16:18 into the third. Sioux Center, IA's power play was ineffective against the Trojans' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Worthington was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Trojans had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. Worthington stifled Sioux Center, IA's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Trojans' offense rang up 60 shots on Sioux Center, IA's net. Worthington outdid its season average for goals scored. The Trojans have scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Worthington also got points from Nick Newman, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Andrew Johnson, who also tallied three goals and one assist, Jacob Oberloh, who also racked up two goals and two assists, and Seth Meier, who also registered one goal and three assists. In addition, Worthington received assists from Mitchell Shreiner and Jacob Molden, who each chipped in two. Alex Purdy recorded 15 saves for Worthington. The Trojans registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Cody Vogel made 49 saves for Sioux Center, IA on 60 shots. Sioux Center, IA incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
