Nelson stymies Great Lakes, Dakota wins 3-1

Aaron Nelson stood on his head and made 49 saves to lead Dakota to a 3-1 victory over Great Lakes.

Dakota was led by Brandon Wahlin, who had one goal. Wahlin scored 14:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dakota. Thomas Williams picked up the assist.

Dakota made Great Lakes' goaltenders to work all game long, launching 49 shots and forcing 46 saves. Trevor Gorsuch made 23 stops and Max Milosek made 23. Dakota managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Dakota finished below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game.

Dakota also got points from AJ Reid, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Scott Dornbrock also scored for Dakota. More assists for Dakota came via Jeremy OKeefe and Patrick Moore, who contributed one a piece.

Great Lakes forced Dakota goalie Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

Great Lakes was led by Martin Gruse, who scored the team's only goal. Gruse scored 18:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Great Lakes. Nick Horne provided the assist.

Dakota registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Great Lakes avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of one power plays.
