Gruber, Appleton dominate Marshall School Duluth, lead Notre Dame to 6-3 win

Behind one goal and three assists from Breet Gruber and two goals and one assist from Mason Appleton, Notre Dame downed the Marshall School Duluth Hilltoppers 6-3.

Gruber scored 10:36 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Notre Dame. Appleton assisted on the tally. Appleton scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Notre Dame had gotten the advantage when Marshall School Duluth's Michael Damberg was sent off for tripping. Sam McCormick picked up the assist. Appleton's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Notre Dame with 13:13 left in the second period. Gruber assisted on the tally.

Notre Dame additionally got points from Appleton, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Notre Dame also had goals scored by Luke Davison, who had one and Jarod Zirbel, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Notre Dame were Riley Christensen, who had one and Anton Brix, who had two.

The Hilltoppers were led by Jordon Fralich, who grabbed two goals. Fralich scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Marshall School Duluth. A tripping penalty on McCormick had put Marshall School Duluth on the power play. Jack Dodd picked up the assist. Fralich's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 8:52 left in the second period. The Hilltoppers earned a power play opportunity when Will Pavek was put in the box for tripping. Kris McKinzie assisted on the tally. Anthony Miller also scored for Marshall School Duluth. In addition, Marshall School Duluth received assists from Jeremy Lopez, who had one.

Eli Hicks rejected 26 shots on goal for Notre Dame. Notre Dame incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Caden Flaherty recorded 19 saves for Marshall School Duluth. The Hilltoppers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
