Eveleth-Gilbert wins tough contest against Red Lake Falls, 3-2Hippodrome/White Bear Lake Sat, Dec 29, 2012 The game between the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears and the Red Lake Falls Eagles was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Eveleth-Gilbert emerged with a 3-2 win. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Cole Kopp's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The Golden Bears were led by Kopp, who racked up one goal and one assist. Kopp scored 14:24 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Eveleth-Gilbert. Sam Roberts assisted on the tally. Eveleth-Gilbert also got a goal from Daniel Rodriguez as well. More assists for Eveleth-Gilbert came via Mitchell Huffman and Greg Fautch, who each chipped in one. Red Lake Falls forced Eveleth-Gilbert goalie Chad Hietela to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Eagles were helped by Tristan Knott, who finished with one goal. Knott scored 4:09 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zack Landman picked up the assist. Ryan Amiot also scored for Red Lake Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Red Lake Falls were Matt Eskeli, who had one. The Golden Bears' Hietela stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Eveleth-Gilbert incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Wyatt Casavan recorded 21 saves for Red Lake Falls. The Eagles totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
