Spethmann's hat trick boosts St. Cloud Cathedral over Sauk Rapids-Rice, 6-0St. Cloud MAC Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Peter Spethmann netted a hat trick to lead the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm, 6-0. Spethmann notched his first tally 49 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 10:24 into the second and at 14:40 into the second.St. Cloud Cathedral stifled Sauk Rapids-Rice's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Crusaders was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. St. Cloud Cathedral averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. The Storm were unable to stop the Crusaders from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Cloud Cathedral eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. St. Cloud Cathedral also got points from Tommy Hall, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Matt Fritz also scored for St. Cloud Cathedral. In addition, St. Cloud Cathedral received assists from Austin Swingle, who had two and Dan Bailey, Trevor Cornelius, Will Hammer, Mitchell Fritz, and Josh Thyen, who each chipped in one. Sauk Rapids-Rice did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Storm put an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game. Sauk Rapids-Rice did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting nine shots on net to force nine saves. The Storm found themselves short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. The Crusaders' Connor Amundson stopped nine shots out of the nine that he faced. St. Cloud Cathedral incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. William Mortenson made 41 saves for Sauk Rapids-Rice on 47 shots. The Storm registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
