Early goals doom Hastings, falls to Hermantown, 8-3

The Hastings Raiders fell behind early, and the Hermantown Hawks kept piling on the points on the way to an 8-3 victory.

Scott Wasbotten had two goals to lead Hermantown to victory. Wasbotten found the back of the net 4:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hermantown and again while 4:50 into the first to make the score 2-0 Hermantown.

Hastings' power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Hermantown stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Hermantown also got points from Bo Gronseth, who also finished with two goals and two assists, Chris Benson, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Travis Koepke, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hermantown were Jake Zeleznikar, who had one and Kori Ochs and Neal Pionk, who each chipped in two.

Hastings did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force nine saves.

Jace Thomas made nine saves for Hermantown on 12 shots. The Hawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Raiders' Matt Radke stopped 19 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Hastings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
