Cloquet Esko Carlton takes care of Buffalo early, wins 8-1

The Cloquet Esko Carlton Lumberjacks opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to an 8-1 over the Buffalo Bison.

James Newgren was all over the ice for Cloquet Esko Carlton, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Newgren scored 7:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cloquet Esko Carlton. Tanner Robideaux assisted on the tally.

The Lumberjacks outdid their season average for goals scored. Cloquet Esko Carlton has scored at the pace of 5.7 goals per game during the current campaign. The Lumberjacks took advantage of Buffalo's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. The defensemen of Cloquet Esko Carlton were also effective in the Bison's zone, and came away with two goals. The 43 shots that the Lumberjacks put on net surpassed Cloquet Esko Carlton's average of 2.1 shots per game this season.

Cloquet Esko Carlton also got points from Beau Michaud, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Cloquet Esko Carlton included Jack Kuhlman, who had two and Koby Bender, Nate Niemi, and Weston Michaud, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cloquet Esko Carlton were Drew Dincau, who had two and Sean Kedrowski, Kyle Klatt, Dylan Michaud, and Ryan Lind, who contributed one a piece.

Buffalo's offense was handcuffed by the Lumberjacks' defensive play, and the Bison managed only 10 shots on goal during the game.

Cloquet Esko Carlton's Justin Ketola stopped nine shots out of the 10 that he faced. The Lumberjacks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Tim Harkness made 35 saves for Buffalo on 43 shots. The Bison incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
