Pionk nets hat trick, leads Hermantown to 11-2 win over Rogers

The Rogers Royals could not stop the Hermantown Hawks' Nate Pionk, who tallied a hat trick in an 11-2 win.

Pionk's first goal came 6:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:26 into the first and at 13:53 into the first.

Hermantown led 10-2 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

The Hawks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Hermantown wound up below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hawks' offense rang up 83 shots on Rogers' net. Hermantown found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Hawks have scored at the pace of 7.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Hermantown also got points from Bo Gronseth, who also finished with three goals and one assist, Neal Pionk, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Chris Benson, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Scott Wasbotten, who also had one goal and one assist. Hermantown also got a goal from Grant Sega as well. More assists for Hermantown came via Jake Zeleznikar, who had two, Travis Koepke, who had three, and Joe Muehlbauer, Kori Ochs, and Ryan Carlson, who contributed one a piece.

The defensemen of the Royals were also effective in Hermantown's zone, and came away with two goals.

Rogers was led by Travis Brown, who racked up one goal. Brown scored 4:06 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alexander Lorman provided the assist. Matt Hellickson also scored for Rogers. In addition, Rogers received assists from Nate Weber, who had one.

The Hawks' Jace Thomas stopped 16 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Hermantown registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Blake Ternus recorded 72 saves for the Royals. Rogers totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and had no power play opportunities. For the Royals, Hellickson was ejected from the game.
