Academy of Holy Angels survives Apple Valley comeback, wins 5-3

The Academy of Holy Angels Stars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Apple Valley Eagles on the way to a 5-3 win.

Academy of Holy Angels made the score 5-2 on a goal by Frankie Mork at 14:12 in the third period, and Apple Valley got as close as 5-3 when Mason Preston scored 14:38 into the third period.

The Stars was paced on offense by Mario Bianchi and Mork, who combined for six points. Bianchi racked up two goals and one assist and Mork also notched two goals and one assist.

Academy of Holy Angels racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Stars had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. By firing 27 shots on goal, Academy of Holy Angels exceeded the 4.2 shots it averages per game this year. The Stars' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Academy of Holy Angels additionally got points from Mork, who also had two goals and one assist. Academy of Holy Angels also got a goal from Justin Cover as well. Other players who recorded assists for Academy of Holy Angels were Marshall Barnes, who had two and Andrew Willner, Owen Larson, Scott McNamara, and Cooper Sande, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles stifled Academy of Holy Angels' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Tyler Heuer also scored for Apple Valley. In addition, Apple Valley received assists from Calvin Leong, who had one and Jacob Smith and Christian Smith, who each chipped in two.

Zack Mains rejected 23 shots on goal for the Stars. Academy of Holy Angels registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For the Stars, Parker Loving was ejected from the game. Mac Wartick made 22 saves for Apple Valley on 27 shots. The Eagles totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play.
