New Prague survives South St.Paul comeback, wins 5-4

The South St.Paul Packers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the New Prague Spartans held on for a 5-4 victory.

New Prague took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have South St.Paul storm back on a Alec Miller goal 15:48 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Spartans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five South St.Paul power plays. New Prague forced the Packers goalie Grant Amelse to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Spartans were helped by Nick Sampson, who had one goal. Sampson scored 1:21 into the third period to make the score New Prague. Kain Wagner provided the assist. New Prague additionally got points from Cody Meyer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Austin Kilian also scored for New Prague. Other players who recorded assists for New Prague were Jake Witt, who had two and Cullen Smith, Alex Gregor, Cole Rolland, and Evan Bisek, who contributed one a piece.

South St.Paul excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Packers were led by Billy Brandecker, who tallied three goals. In addition, South St.Paul received assists from Ben Krey, Dan Pietruzewski, Billy Marlow, Jack Pietruzewski, and Brenden Shanley, who each chipped in one.

New Prague's Evan Bisek stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Spartans ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Grant Amelse made 28 saves for South St.Paul on 33 shots. The Packers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
