Mankato East/Loyola outlasts Waseca, 4-2

The game between the Mankato East/Loyola Cougars and the Waseca Bluejays was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mankato East/Loyola emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Grayson Gavin at 11:15 of the third period.

Waseca's power play was ineffective against the Cougars' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Mankato East/Loyola was led by Gavin, who racked up one goal.

The Cougars stifled the Bluejays' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mankato East/Loyola could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mankato East/Loyola also got points from Shane Sellner, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Brent Adams, who also had one goal and one assist. Neil Nienaber also scored for Mankato East/Loyola. Other players who recorded assists for Mankato East/Loyola were Judd Schulz, Carter Johnson, and Logan Lebert, who contributed one a piece.

Waseca was helped by Cody Ulfers, who registered one goal. Ulfers scored 14:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Waseca also got a goal from Jesse Ungs as well. More assists for Waseca came via Brett Whitehurst and CJ Nordquis, who each chipped in one.

Jeremia Merela made 21 saves for the Cougars on 23 shots. Mankato East/Loyola registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Bluejays' Zac Weichert stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Waseca incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
