Versich's big game bests North High in 8-0 St. Thomas Academy win

The St. Thomas Academy Cadets were firing on all cylinders against the North High Polars, and when the final buzzer sounded Cadets emerged with an 8-0 win.

St. Thomas Academy got the win behind a great game by Christiano Versich, who had one goal and two assists. Versich scored 1:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas Academy. Gunnar Regan picked up the assist.

The Cadets forced North High's goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 48 shots and forcing 40 saves. Mario Bollman made 32 stops and Steve Orne made eight. St. Thomas Academy stifled the Polars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cadets surpassed their usual scoring output this season. St. Thomas Academy has scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

St. Thomas Academy also got points from Tony Bretzman, who also had one goal and one assist, Jake Geiser, who also registered one goal and one assist, Tom Novak, who also racked up three goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Austin Sattler, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Alec Broetzman also scored for St. Thomas Academy. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas Academy were Jack Dougherty, Jack Stang, and Dan Weihrauch, who contributed one a piece.

North High could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Polars average 2.1 goals per game. The Cadets' defense shut down North High's forwards for much of the game, and the Polars got off only nine shots during the contest.

St. Thomas Academy took out Conor Murphy after he had made four saves and installed David Zevnik in goal, where he finished with five saves and the win. The Cadets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. North High totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
