Worthington falls apart in second, loses to Marshall, 7-0

The Worthington Trojans allowed the Marshall Tigers to net four goals during the second period and fell, 7-0.

Leo Zerr had two goals and one assist to lead Marshall. Zerr scored the first of his two goals at 6:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Marshall. Corey Clark assisted on the tally. Zerr's next tally made the score 6-0 Marshall with 17:25 left in the third period. Clark picked up the assist.

The Tigers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Marshall forced Worthington goalie Rylan Scholtes to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Marshall additionally got points from Alex Buysse, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Beau Mikel also scored for Marshall. Other players who recorded assists for Marshall were Quinn Horvath, Blaine Moran, and Randy Louwagie, who each chipped in one.

The Trojans were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Worthington surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

Adam Cavazos made 19 saves for the Tigers on 19 shots. Marshall totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Scholtes rejected 42 shots on goal for the Trojans.
