East Ridge survives penalties, beats Park of Cottage Grove, 5-2

The Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the East Ridge Raptors shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

East Ridge was sparked by Derek Hammer, who registered one goal. Hammer scored on the power play 9:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 East Ridge. The Raptors had gotten the advantage when Park of Cottage Grove's Jake Young was sent off for slashing. Brady Hanson assisted on the tally.

East Ridge's offense operated below it season average. The Raptors put an average of 8.0 pucks into the net per game. East Ridge forced the Wolfpack goalie Matthew Palmquist to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Raptors was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. East Ridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kevin Donahue also scored for East Ridge. In addition, East Ridge received assists from Jacob Nickoloff, Jack Greeley, Steven Fronek, Ian Penvose, and Joseph Schutz, who contributed one a piece.

Park of Cottage Grove was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Wolfpack had been spending in the box.

Park of Cottage Grove was led by Jacob Garr, who grabbed two goals. Garr scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:23 into the third period to make the score 4-1 East Ridge. An interference penalty on Tyler Hart had put the Wolfpack on the power play. Nicholas Moser picked up the assist. Garr's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 East Ridge with 11:18 left in the third period.

The Raptors' Tyler Guck stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. For East Ridge, Hart and Ryan Karrow were ejected from the contest. Palmquist recorded 39 saves for Park of Cottage Grove. The Wolfpack registered one goal on 13 power play opportunities.
