Park of Cottage Grove holds on for 4-3 win against Mounds View

The Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mounds View Mustangs on the way to a 4-3 win.

Park of Cottage Grove took a 4-2 lead during the second period, only to have Mounds View storm back on a Jacob Tretsven goal 5:00 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Eric Stoffel was all over the ice for the Wolfpack, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Stoffel scored the first of his two goals at 4:51 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Christopher Peterson provided the assist. Stoffel's next tally made the score Park of Cottage Grove with 3:18 left in the second period. Peterson assisted on the tally.

Park of Cottage Grove's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Mounds View power plays. The Wolfpack could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Nickolas Perry also scored for Park of Cottage Grove. Other players who recorded assists for Park of Cottage Grove were Cody Newton, who had one.

The Mustangs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game Mounds View had been spending in the box. The Mustangs stifled Park of Cottage Grove's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mounds View put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.1 it averages per game.

The Mustangs were helped by Darian Romanko, who registered one goal. Romanko scored 10:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mounds View. Wyatt Meyer provided the assist. Mounds View also got a goal from Matt Hunt as well. In addition, Mounds View received assists from Griff Anderson and Dayton Honkanen, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Strand rejected 25 shots on goal for the Wolfpack. Park of Cottage Grove registered zero goals on nine power play opportunities. Mounds View's Brandon Smith stopped 16 shots out of the 20 that he faced.
