Hastings beats North High 3-1 after comeback scare

The North High Polars tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hastings Raiders held on for a 3-1 victory.

A goal by Matt Flynn put Hastings up 3-0 in the third period, but North High pulled to within two on Maverick Meister's tally 7:53 into the third period.

The Raiders were paced by Colin Shoen, who had one goal. Shoen scored 6:36 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Hastings. Jacob Cooper picked up the assist.

Hastings' offense rang up 42 shots on the Polars' net.

Hastings additionally got points from Andrew Bussey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Hastings came via Jake Caneff and Joe Shingledecker, who contributed one a piece.

North High was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The Polars had been averaging 11.0 minutes in penalties per game. North High's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Hastings power plays. The Polars found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against the Raiders' defense.

Other players who recorded assists for North High were Kyle Blom, who had one.

Michael Barr made 12 saves for Hastings on 13 shots. The Raiders incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mario Bollman recorded 39 saves for North High. The Polars registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
