Hastings pulls away in second, rolls over Park of Cottage Grove, 7-3

The Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack was within striking distance after one period, but the Hastings Raiders put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-3 victory.

Hastings got the win behind a great game by Zach Mellick, who had two goals and one assist. Mellick scored the first of his two goals at 4:07 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Hastings. Blake Berg picked up the assist. Mellick's next tally made the score 7-2 Hastings with 14:56 left in the third period. Brandon Boogreen assisted on the tally.

The Raiders forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Hastings surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Raiders kept Park of Cottage Grove's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Palmquist made 25 saves on 32 shots. Hastings bested its season scoring average. The Raiders have scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Hastings also got points from Matt Flynn, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hastings also got a goal from Mark Huneke as well. In addition, Hastings received assists from Matt Koch, Joe Shingledecker, and Andrew Bussey, who contributed one a piece.

The Wolfpack were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Park of Cottage Grove had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Wolfpack were helped by Nicholas Gamache, who racked up one goal. Gamache scored 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Park of Cottage Grove. Jacob Garr provided the assist. Park of Cottage Grove additionally got points from Nicholas Moser, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Christopher Peterson also scored for Park of Cottage Grove. Other players who recorded assists for Park of Cottage Grove were Alex Kielsa, who had one.

Matt Radke made 21 saves for Hastings on 24 shots. The Raiders registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Park of Cottage Grove registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
