Cambridge/Isanti survives Minneapolis comeback, wins 2-1Isanti County Area Civic Arena Sat, Dec 22, 2012 The Cambridge/Isanti Bluejackets survived a determined comeback attempt by the Minneapolis Novas on the way to a 2-1 win. Cambridge/Isanti took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Minneapolis storm back on a Jimmy Roth goal 13:38 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Bluejackets' Tim Schultz was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 43 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Schultz will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.76. The Novas' power play was ineffective against Cambridge/Isanti's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Bluejackets stifled Minneapolis' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cambridge/Isanti could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The Bluejackets were helped by Preston Simon, who tallied one goal. Simon scored 14:50 into the second period to make the score Cambridge/Isanti. Mitch Renstrom provided the assist. Cambridge/Isanti also got points from Renstrom, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Cambridge/Isanti came via Collin Anderson and Veeti Uuttera, who each chipped in one. The Novas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cambridge/Isanti to score on any of its four power plays. Minneapolis did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Novas average 3.6 goals per game. Minneapolis forced the Bluejackets goalie Schultz to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. In addition, Minneapolis received assists from Joe Guimont and Tony Pnewski, who contributed one a piece. Erik Toftner rejected 17 shots on goal for the Novas. Minneapolis ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
