Steward nets hat trick, leads Prairie Centre to 6-4 win over Redwood Valley

Cody Steward netted a hat trick to lead the Prairie Centre North Stars over the Redwood Valley Cardinals, 6-4.

Steward notched his first tally 1:10 into the second period. He then added goals at 12:42 into the second and at 12:16 into the third.

Prairie Centre bested its season scoring average. The North Stars have scored at the pace of 1.7 goal per game during the current campaign.

Prairie Centre also got points from Sam Ecker, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Preston Pung also scored for Prairie Centre. Other players who recorded assists for Prairie Centre were Adam Froseth, who had one and Noah Schmitz, who had two.

Redwood Valley was helped by Austin Kretsch, who racked up one goal. Kretsch scored on the power play 10:23 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Prairie Centre. A slashing penalty on Schmitz had put the Cardinals on the power play. Redwood Valley additionally got points from Chris Hallden, who also registered one goal and one assist, Hunter Breidenbach, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jacob Prouty, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Redwood Valley came via Logan Sandgren and Koillin Joines, who contributed one a piece.

Clay Deters recorded 22 saves for Prairie Centre. The North Stars totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Jordan Houle made 19 saves for Redwood Valley on 25 shots. The Cardinals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
