Minnetonka downs Edina in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Minnetonka Skippers pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Edina Hornets on a clutch goal by Charlie Huminski.

Minnetonka's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Edina power plays. The Skippers' offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 7.0 shots per game they average.

Minnetonka also got points from Tommy Vannelli, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Max Coatta, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jared Ridge also scored for Minnetonka. In addition, Minnetonka received assists from Jimmy Schuldt, who had two and Connor Thie and Tommy Brandabur, who each chipped in one.

The defense for Edina played an important role offensively, racking up 13 shots on goal. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Hornets exceeded the 14.7 shots they average per game this year. Edina found itself short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays.

The Hornets were led by Dylan Malmquist, who grabbed three goals. More assists for Edina came via Connor Hurley, who had two and Matt Nelson and Andy Jordahl, who contributed one a piece.

Minnetonka's Paul Ciaccio stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Skippers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Willie Benjamin recorded 24 saves for Edina.
