St. Paul Johnson rips Ely/Northeast Range, 10-3

The St. Paul Johnson Governors had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-3 win over the Ely/Northeast Range Timberwolves.

St. Paul Johnson was sparked by Mitchell Feske, who finished with one goal. Feske scored 16:40 into the first period to make the score 4-2 St. Paul Johnson.

In a losing effort, Ely/Northeast Range was paced by Ben Aho, who tallied two goals. Aho scored the first of his two goals at 3:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ely/Northeast Range. Lori Huseby assisted on the tally. Aho's next tally made the score 2-0 Ely/Northeast Range with 16:51 left in the first period.

The Governors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. St. Paul Johnson kept the Timberwolves' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kael Richards made 57 saves on 67 shots. The Governors' goal total was higher than their season average. St. Paul Johnson additionally got points from Tyler Willier, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Matt Ranum, who also had one goal and one assist, and Christian Sanda, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for St. Paul Johnson included Taylor Bennett, who had two and Justin Howell, jesse solheid, and William Monn-Kreitz, who scored one goal each. More assists for St. Paul Johnson came via Jeremy Lyons, who had two and Thomas Murphy, Luke Ranum, Brendan Zangs, and Matthew Blees, who each chipped in one.

Ely/Northeast Range forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Timberwolves had been averaging 12.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ely/Northeast Range's offense was handcuffed by the Governors' defensive play, and the Timberwolves managed only nine shots on goal during the game.
