Sprague lifts Achiever NE Academy over Waseca, 8-3

Behind a great game by Cory Sprague, who had four goals, the Achiever NE Academy Aces defeated the Waseca Bluejays, 8-3.

Sprague got on the scoresheet 1:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:14 into the second, at 13:38 into the third, and at 14:55 into the third.

Achiever NE Academy's penalty kill excelled, as the Aces gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Achiever NE Academy stifled Waseca's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Aces forced the Bluejays goalie Austin Stroda to work between the pipes, taking 55 shots.

Achiever NE Academy additionally got points from Brennan McGuire, who also had one goal and one assist, Cameron Hamlet, who also registered one goal and three assists, B Thompson, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and T. Marsh, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Achiever NE Academy came via Ryan Finnegan, who had three and Ty Thompson and Garrett Martin, who each chipped in one.

The Waseca penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Bluejays had been spending in the box. Waseca's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Achiever NE Academy power plays.

The Bluejays were helped by Cody Ulfers, who grabbed one goal. Ulfers scored short handed 8:34 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Waseca found itself down a man on CJ Nordquis' slashing. JP Eykyn provided the assist. Michael Kunz also scored for Waseca.

Parker Butler recorded 15 saves for Achiever NE Academy. The Aces incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Bluejays' Stroda stopped 47 shots out of the 55 that he faced. For Waseca, Eykyn was ejected from the game.
