Becker's big game bests South St.Paul in 5-1 Mahtomedi win

The Mahtomedi Zephyers' Jack Becker had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-1 win over the South St.Paul Packers.

Becker beat Grant Amelse with a shot 10:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mahtomedi. Kellen Campbell assisted on the tally. Becker dished an assist on Trevor Keeney's goal that made the score 3-1 Mahtomedi at 8:08 into the third period. He added another helper on Trevor Dittberner's goal that made the score 5-1 Mahtomedi at 14:51 into the third period.

Mahtomedi's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three South St.Paul power plays. South St.Paul was unable to stop the Zephyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Mahtomedi eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Cory Bruggeman also scored for Mahtomedi. More assists for Mahtomedi came via Adam Boben, Truman Slack, Sam Koenig, Tanner Mireault, and Cosimo Yapello, who each chipped in one.

The Packers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Zephyers' defense shut down South St.Paul's forwards for much of the game, and the Packers got off only 12 shots during the contest.

South St.Paul was led by Billy Brandecker, who scored the team's only goal. Brandecker scored 6:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 South St.Paul. Jack Pietruzewski picked up the assist.

Thomas Hennen rejected 11 shots on goal for Mahtomedi. The Zephyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Amelse recorded 30 saves for the Packers. South St.Paul incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
