Grand Rapids blows out International Falls, 5-1IRA Civic Center Fri, Feb 08, 2013 The International Falls Broncos had trouble finding ways to stop the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks, which beat Broncos, 5-1. Grand Rapids was sparked by Cody Mann, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Mann scored 12:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Grand Rapids. Reid Holum picked up the assist. The Thunderhawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 29 shots that Grand Rapids put on net surpassed the Thunderhawks' average of 3.1 shots per game this season. Grand Rapids also got points from Holum, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Jonah Bischoff, who also had one goal and one assist, and John Crippa, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Michael LaRoque also scored for Grand Rapids. In addition, Grand Rapids received assists from Patrick Rajala, David Horsmann, Connor LaRoque, Hunter Mackenhausen, and Quinn Mishcke, who contributed one a piece. International Falls could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Broncos put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. International Falls' penalty kill unit could not stop Grand Rapids' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. The Broncos were led by Kyler Schneider, who scored the team's only goal. Schneider scored 5:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Erik Lassila assisted on the tally. Hunter Shepard recorded 23 saves for the Thunderhawks. Grand Rapids ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. International Falls' Wesley Gunnerson stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Broncos incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
