International Falls wins tough contest against Lake of the Woods/Indus, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the International Falls Broncos escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Lake of the Woods/Indus Bears.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Erik Lassila secured the win for International Falls with a goal in the third period.

Jack Mellstrom had a great game for the Broncos, netting two goals. Mellstrom found the back of the net 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 International Falls and again while 1:51 into the third to make the score 2-2.

International Falls' offense rang up 35 shots on Lake of the Woods/Indus' net.

International Falls also got points from Lassila, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Lucas Debenedet, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for International Falls came via Derek White, Kyler Schneider, and Luke Spilde, who each chipped in one.

The Bears were helped by Cole Nelson, who finished with one goal. Nelson scored on the power play 9:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lake of the Woods/Indus. An interference penalty on White had put Lake of the Woods/Indus on the power play. Blake Olson picked up the assist. Lake of the Woods/Indus also got a goal from Victor Dahl as well.

Wesley Gunnerson made 15 saves for the Broncos on 17 shots. International Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities. Kyle Olson rejected 31 shots on goal for the Bears. Lake of the Woods/Indus incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
