Grand Rapids rolls over International Falls, 5-0Bronco Arena Fri, Jan 25, 2013 The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks were firing on all cylinders against the International Falls Broncos, and when the final buzzer sounded Thunderhawks emerged with a 5-0 win. Avery Peterson was all over the ice for Grand Rapids, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Peterson scored the first of his two goals at 14:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Grand Rapids. Jake Bischoff picked up the assist. Peterson's next tally made the score 5-0 Grand Rapids with 13:50 left in the third period. David Horsmann provided the assist. The Thunderhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow International Falls to score on any of its five power plays. Grand Rapids' defensive effort looked to be improved. The Thunderhawks allow 2.1 goals per game. The defensemen of Grand Rapids were also effective in the Broncos' zone, and came away with two goals. The Thunderhawks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 4.5 shots per game they average. Grand Rapids additionally got points from Shaffer Holum, who also registered one goal and one assist and Bischoff, who also had one goal and one assist. Grand Rapids also got a goal from Zach Frazier as well. More assists for Grand Rapids came via Ben Monley, Jonah Bischoff, and Petter Sahslstrom, who contributed one a piece. International Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Grand Rapids power plays. The Broncos were held below their usual level of production. International Falls averages 4.0 goals per game. The Broncos' offense were handcuffed by Grand Rapids' defensive play, and International Falls managed only nine shots on goal during the game. Hunter Shepard rejected nine shots on goal for the Thunderhawks. Grand Rapids incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wyatt Ulrich made 30 saves for the Broncos on 35 shots. International Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
