Willmar holds on for 2-1 win against Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl

The Willmar Cardinals survived a determined comeback attempt by the Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl Blue Devils on the way to a 2-1 win.

Willmar took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl storm back on a Jordan Przybylski goal 15:29 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Hunter Schneider was all over the ice for the Cardinals, as he registered two goals in the win.

Willmar was led by goalie Joe Benson, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Benson will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.55 entering the contest.

The Cardinals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

In addition, Willmar received assists from Evan VanDenEide, who had one.

Other players who recorded assists for Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl were Zach Voss and Travis Kemp, who each chipped in one.

Willmar incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Blue Devils' Lucas Murray stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
