Benilde St. Margarets falls to Grand Rapids in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Lake Polegama Sat, Jan 19, 2013 The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights on a clutch goal by Cody Mann. Grand Rapids overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Thunderhawks fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Benilde St. Margarets' Will Duda at 13:49 in the first period. Grand Rapids tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Avery Peterson at 15:41 in the second period. Peterson was all over the ice for the Thunderhawks, as he tallied two goals in the win. Grand Rapids excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. With 27 shots on target during the contest, the Thunderhawks exceeded the 4.9 shots they average per game this year. The Red Knights stifled Grand Rapids' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Benilde St. Margarets was held below its usual level of production. The Red Knights put an average of 5.6 pucks into the net per game. Benilde St. Margarets put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 16.8 it averages per game. The Red Knights could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. Benilde St. Margarets also got a goal from Spencer Naas as well. In addition, Benilde St. Margarets received assists from Chris Hickok, Johnny Austin, Chase Jungels, and Nate Meyer, who contributed one a piece. The Thunderhawks' Hunter Shepard stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Grand Rapids incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Andrew Sprang rejected 24 shots on goal for Benilde St. Margarets.
