St. Francis survives Grand Rapids comeback, wins 3-2IRA Civic Center Fri, Dec 28, 2012 The St. Francis Saints came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks, but did just enough to escape with a 3-2 victory. St. Francis led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Saints' Aaron Folk's scored at 12:03 in the second period to put St. Francis up 3-0. The Saints stifled Grand Rapids' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Francis was helped by Cameron Kaehler, who registered one goal. Kaehler scored on the power play 11:38 into the second period to make the score 2-0 St. Francis. The Saints had taken the advantage when the Thunderhawks' Zach Frazier got sent off for tripping. Zach Foesch provided the assist. Kyle Wagner also scored for St. Francis. More assists for St. Francis came via Sam Karas and Carter Hilgers, who contributed one a piece. Grand Rapids got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. By firing 48 shots on goal, the Thunderhawks exceeded the 7.1 shots they average per game this year. Grand Rapids was helped by Jake Bischoff, who had one goal. Bischoff scored 12:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 St. Francis. Avery Peterson assisted on the tally. Grand Rapids also got a goal from Shaffer Holum as well. Other players who recorded assists for Grand Rapids were Cody Mann, who had two. Darion Hanson rejected 46 shots on goal for St. Francis. The Saints incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Thunderhawks' Hunter Shepard stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Grand Rapids incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
