The Eden Prairie Eagles and the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks skate to 4-4 (OT) tieBraemar Arena Fri, Dec 21, 2012 Behind three goals and one assist from Mason Bergh and one goal and two assists from Steven Spinner, Eden Prairie drew with Grand Rapids 4-4 (OT). The Eagles forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Eden Prairie had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Eagles' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in four goals to the Thunderhawks' power play unit. Eden Prairie put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 14.1 it averages per game. Eden Prairie additionally got points from Spinner, who also registered one goal and two assists. More assists for Eden Prairie came via Andrew Knudsen, who had two and Luc Snuggerud and Hunter Warner, who each chipped in one. Grand Rapids got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The 36 shots that the Thunderhawks put on net surpassed Grand Rapids' average of 6.8 shots per game this season. The Thunderhawks were led by Shaffer Holum, who grabbed two goals and two assists. Holum scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:21 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Eden Prairie. David Horsmann picked up the assist. Holum's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Eden Prairie with 7:21 left in the third period. Grand Rapids had gained a power play chance when Spinner was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Reid Holum assisted on the tally. Grand Rapids also got points from Avery Peterson, who also had two goals and one assist. Jake Gerdes rejected 32 shots on goal for the Eagles. Eden Prairie registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Eagles, Knudsen was ejected from the game. Hunter Shepard recorded 39 saves for the Thunderhawks. Grand Rapids incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
