Grand Rapids' Mann deadly on offense in 4-1 win against Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl

Cody Mann had two goals to lead the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl Blue Devils.

Mann's tallies came at 10:00 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Grand Rapids and 10:44 into the second to make the score 3-0 Grand Rapids.

Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl was stymied by Grand Rapids netminder Hunter Shepard, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Shepard managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.18 prior to the game.

The Thunderhawks stifled the Blue Devils' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl was unable to stop Grand Rapids from sending pucks towards the net, and the Thunderhawks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Grand Rapids additionally got points from David Horsmann, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Grand Rapids also got a goal from John Crippa as well. In addition, Grand Rapids received assists from Shaffer Holum, Avery Peterson, and Michael LaRoque, who contributed one a piece.

The Blue Devils put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Grand Rapids to score on any of its four power plays. Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl's offense rang up 41 shots on the Thunderhawks' net.

Grand Rapids ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Lucas Murray rejected 34 shots on goal for the Blue Devils. Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
