Warroad erases deficit to stun Crookston, 8-7The Gardens Tue, Jan 22, 2013 The Crookston Pirates could not hold down the Warroad Warriors, and Warriors erased a four-goal deficit en route to an 8-7 win. Warroad never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Warriors trailed 6-2 after a goal by Crookston's Chandler St. Michel at 7:39 in the second period. Warroad knotted things up at 6-6 on a goal by Casey Anderson at 11:32 in the third period. The Warriors got the game winner at 15:20 in the third period on a goal by Anderson. Warroad got the win on the strength of a great game by Kobe Roth, who had two goals and two assists. Roth scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:34 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Crookston. An interference penalty on Justin Cameron had put the Warriors on the power play. Kyle Sylvester provided the assist. Roth's next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Crookston with 13:18 left in the third period. Luke Jaycox picked up the assist. Warroad kept the Pirates' goalie busy throughout the game, and Parker Epema made 33 saves on 41 shots. The Warriors' goal total was higher than their season average. Warroad has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Warriors' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Warroad averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. Warroad also got points from Ben Smieja, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Sylvester, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Brandon Newhouse, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Nick Jaycox also scored for Warroad. In addition, Warroad received assists from Jared Bethune, who had two and Blayke Nelson and Zach Johnston, who each chipped in one. Crookston found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Pirates average 4.2 goals per contest. Crookston was helped by Connor Morgan, who had two goals and one assist. Morgan scored the first of his two goals at 3:23 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Crookston. Kal Salentiny assisted on the tally. Morgan's next tally made the score 8-7 Warroad with 3:09 left in the third period. Crookston additionally got points from Brady Heppner, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Crookston included Curtis Regan, who had one and Ryan Edevold, who had two.
