Detroit Lakes beats Northern Lakes 2-0 as Steele gains shutout

MacKenzie Steele made 31 saves to complete the shutout and led the Detroit Lakes Lakers to a 2-0 win against the Northern Lakes Lightning.

Detroit Lakes was led by Sam Bergren, who finished with one goal. Bergren scored 4:02 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Detroit Lakes. Brady Crawford provided the assist.

The Lakers stifled Northern Lakes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Johnathan Hallisey also scored for Detroit Lakes. More assists for Detroit Lakes came via Michael Hermann and Austin Rusness, who each chipped in one.

The Lightning put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Detroit Lakes to score on any of its seven power plays. Northern Lakes forced the Lakers goalie Steele to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Lightning could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Detroit Lakes ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Mitch Stangel rejected 27 shots on goal for Northern Lakes. The Lightning registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
