Northern Lakes outlasts Prairie Centre, 5-3Breezy Point Ice Arena Tue, Feb 12, 2013 The Northern Lakes Lightning and the Prairie Centre North Stars were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Northern Lakes made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. The Lightning gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jake Hyytinen 7:53 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Northern Lakes forced Prairie Centre goalie Clay Deters to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Lightning were led by Nick Blanchette, who tallied two goals. Blanchette scored the first of his two goals at 4:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Northern Lakes. Blanchette's next tally made the score 3-2 Northern Lakes with 17:40 left in the third period. Northern Lakes additionally got points from Gaven Bickford, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ben Moe also scored for Northern Lakes. In addition, Northern Lakes received assists from Kyle Narveson and Aspen Florey, who contributed one a piece. The North Stars found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 14 shots against Northern Lakes' defense. Prairie Centre was led by Cody Steward, who registered two goals. Steward scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Northern Lakes. Josh Panitzke assisted on the tally. Steward's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 16:44 left in the third period. Ryan Ritter provided the assist. Prairie Centre also got a goal from Sam Ecker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Prairie Centre were Preston Pung and Noah Schmitz, who each chipped in one. The Lightning's Mitch Stangel stopped 11 shots out of the 14 that he faced. Northern Lakes totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Clay Deters made 37 saves for the North Stars on 42 shots. Prairie Centre totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
