Macpherson leads Park Rapids over Detroit Lakes, 7-0

Noah Macpherson had four goals and one assist to lead the Park Rapids Panthers to a 7-0 victory over the Detroit Lakes Lakers.

Macpherson's first goal came 10:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:20 into the second, at 12:09 into the second, and at 4:42 into the third.

Park Rapids was boosted by Cody Brumbaugh, who turned in a shutout with 26 saves. Brumbaugh certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.17 entering the contest.

The Panthers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Detroit Lakes to score on any of its three power plays. Park Rapids' defensive effort looked to be improved. The Panthers allow 2.8 goals per game. Park Rapids kept the Lakers' goalie busy throughout the game, and MacKenzie Steele made 32 saves on 39 shots. The Panthers outdid their season average for goals scored. Park Rapids averages 3.4 goals per game. The Panthers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Park Rapids also got points from Frank Moren, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Ian Johnson also scored for Park Rapids. More assists for Park Rapids came via Jeff Jacobson and Chase Brand, who each chipped in one and Drew Bade and Connor Kennedy, who contributed two a piece.

Detroit Lakes stifled Park Rapids' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers were held below their usual level of production. Detroit Lakes puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game.

The Panthers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Lakers ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
