Macpherson nets hat trick, leads Park Rapids to 7-1 win over Wadena-Deer Creek

Noah Macpherson netted a hat trick to lead the Park Rapids Panthers over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines, 7-1.

Macpherson notched his first tally 11:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:39 into the second and at 10:40 into the third.

Park Rapids was led by goalie Cody Brumbaugh, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Brumbaugh managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.16 prior to the game.

The Panthers' offense rang up 35 shots on Wadena-Deer Creek's net. Park Rapids bested its season scoring average. The Panthers average 3.1 goals per game. Park Rapids' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Park Rapids also got points from Frank Moren, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Ian Johnson, who also racked up one goal and three assists. Drew Bade also scored for Park Rapids. More assists for Park Rapids came via Matt DelaHunt, Chase Brand, Kiefer Miller, and Connor Kennedy, who contributed one a piece.

The Wolverines managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Wadena-Deer Creek ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Wolverines could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Wadena-Deer Creek averages 4.2 goals per game.

The Wolverines were led by Christian Berg, who scored the team's only goal. Berg scored on the power play 14:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Park Rapids. Wadena-Deer Creek had taken the advantage when the Panthers' Chris Walters got sent off for tripping. Mitchell Swanson picked up the assist.

Park Rapids incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Wolverines' Wesley Janson stopped 28 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Wadena-Deer Creek registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
