Warroad beats Bemidji 5-3 after comeback scareThe Gardens Tue, Jan 15, 2013 The Bemidji Lumberjacks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Warroad Warriors held on for a 5-3 victory. Warroad took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Bemidji storm back on a Brett Isensee goal 12:01 into the third period to pull to two goals down. Jared Bethune was all over the ice for the Warriors, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Bethune scored the first of his two goals at 3:38 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Warroad. Blayke Nelson provided the assist. Bethune's next tally made the score 4-2 Warroad with 7:09 left in the second period. Kobe Roth picked up the assist. Warroad managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Warriors wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Warroad forced the Lumberjacks goalie Grant Tharaldson to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Warroad additionally got points from Roth, who also racked up two goals and two assists and Ben Smieja, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. The Warriors were unable to stop Bemidji from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumberjacks eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Bemidji was led by Mike Sauer, who finished with two goals. Sauer scored the first of his two goals at zero seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bemidji. Matt Serratore assisted on the tally. Sauer's next tally made the score 2-0 Bemidji with 11:54 left in the first period. Serratore picked up the assist. In addition, Bemidji received assists from Tyler Schummer, who had one. Warroad's Justin King stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Warriors registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Tharaldson rejected 39 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Bemidji ended with no penalties and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
