The River Lakes Stars tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Bemidji Lumberjacks held on for a 2-1 victory.

A goal by Zach Ponser put Bemidji up 2-0 in the third period, but River Lakes pulled to within one on Jake Herges's tally 12:22 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks were sparked by Ponser, who racked up one goal. Ponser scored 43 seconds into the third period to make the score Bemidji. Sam Starkey assisted on the tally.

Bemidji kept the Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Skluzacek made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Matt Serratore also scored for Bemidji. In addition, Bemidji received assists from Sam Bruestle, who had one.

Other players who recorded assists for River Lakes were Joe Spaulding, who had one.

Gabe Heifort recorded 23 saves for the Lumberjacks. Bemidji incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. River Lakes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
