Hill-Murray holds on for 6-4 win against Moorhead

The Hill-Murray Pioneers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Moorhead Spuds on the way to a 6-4 win.

Hill-Murray made the score 6-3 on a goal by Sam Becker at six seconds in the third period, and Moorhead got as close as 6-4 when Leif Johnson scored 1:20 into the third period.

The Pioneers got the win with help from a great game by Becker, who had two goals and two assists. Becker scored the first of his two goals at 2:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hill-Murray. Tyler Funk picked up the assist. Becker's next tally made the score Hill-Murray with 19:54 left in the third period. Ryan Black provided the assist.

Hill-Murray's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Pioneers give up 1.5 goal per game. Hill-Murray's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 2.2 shots per game it averages.

Hill-Murray also got points from Black, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Joey Anderson also scored for Hill-Murray. More assists for Hill-Murray came via Willie Brown, Matt Littler, and Zach LaValle, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 29 shots on goal, the Spuds exceeded the 1.1 shot they average per game this year.

Moorhead was helped by Thomas Carey, who registered one goal. Carey scored 2:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Mehnert picked up the assist. Moorhead also got a goal from Tony Uglem as well. In addition, Moorhead received assists from Jayden Masseth and Grant Weiss, who each chipped in one.

John Dugas recorded 25 saves for the Pioneers. Hill-Murray incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Spuds' Jacob Dittmer stopped 27 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Moorhead incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
