Moorhead wins tough contest against East Grand Forks, 4-3

The game between the Moorhead Spuds and the East Grand Forks Green Wave was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Moorhead emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tony Uglem secured the win for the Spuds with a goal in the third period.

Uglem had a great game for Moorhead, netting two goals.

The Spuds took advantage of East Grand Forks' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Moorhead put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.6 it averages per game.

Nicholas Uglem also scored for Moorhead. Other players who recorded assists for Moorhead were Will Borgen, who had one, Aaron Herdt, who had three, and John OConnor and Thomas Carey, who each chipped in two.

The Green Wave's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. East Grand Forks is averaging 1.4 goal against for the season.

The Green Wave were helped by Tanner Tweten, who finished with two goals. Tweten scored the first of his two goals at 16:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Moorhead. Eddie Eades picked up the assist. Tweten's next tally made the score 3-3 with 15:45 left in the third period. East Grand Forks earned a power play opportunity when Jacob Odegard was put in the box for hooking. Tommy Hajicek assisted on the tally. East Grand Forks also got points from Hajicek, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for East Grand Forks came via Taylor Brierley and Brandon Loven, who contributed one a piece.

Jacob Dittmer recorded 27 saves for the Spuds. Moorhead incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Tanner Lindstrom made 35 saves for the Green Wave on 39 shots. East Grand Forks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
