Early goals doom Richfield, falls to St. Thomas Academy, 16-0Richfield Tue, Feb 12, 2013 The Richfield Spartans fell behind early, and the St. Thomas Academy Cadets kept piling on the points on the way to a 16-0 victory. St. Thomas Academy was led by Alex Johnson, who had one goal and one assist. Johnson scored 1:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas Academy. Tony Bretzman provided the assist. The Cadets found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, St. Thomas Academy averages 5.0 goals per contest. The 72 shots that the Cadets put on net surpassed St. Thomas Academy's average of 1.3 shot per game this season. St. Thomas Academy additionally got points from T.J. Samec, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Jack Stang, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Mario Bognanno, who also racked up three goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Jake Geiser, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Peter Tufto, who also registered one goal and two assists, Tom Novak, who also had one goal and two assists, Christiano Versich, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Dan McManus, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Matt Perry, who also registered one goal and two assists. St. Thomas Academy also got a goal from Austin Sattler as well. In addition, St. Thomas Academy received assists from Zach Weier, who had one, Wyatt Schmidt, who had three, and Jack Dougherty, Jim Dolan, and Henry Hart, who contributed two a piece. Richfield did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Spartans average 2.3 goals per game. The Cadets' defense shut down Richfield's forwards for much of the game, and the Spartans got off only four shots during the contest. Conor Murphy made four saves for St. Thomas Academy on four shots. The Cadets finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-0 with the man advantage. John Meyer rejected 56 shots on goal for Richfield. The Spartans avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of zero power plays.
